The History of the Legion called Anonymous
1. History
Chapter 1 (2003 - 2008)
After "http://4chan.org" was created, the word "Anonymous" became an Internet meme. No one would be able to realise this Internet meme would eventually have, possibly the biggest world wide impact, in the entire timeline of the Information Age. 4chan members were known to gather in large numbers, and plan resistances against other humans and organisations. Anons shifted to Internet Relay Chats to discuss their activities. Anonymous quickly received negative attention from mainstream news media. However, this has only caused further resistance against mainstream news media. Encyclopaedia Dramatica (a wiki-based encyclopaedia) was adopted by Anonymous for entertainment (this is considered as "#lulz"). Even the slogan of Encyclopaedia Dramatica says "In lulz we trust". Hacktivism did NOT become mainstream until Anonymous "Project Chanology" was released by Anonymous.

2. Inspirations
Anonymous was inspired by 4chan's status of all anonymous comments on its forums, and the Internet meme of Anonymous that was created, based on 4chan. The common usage of Guy Fawkes masks can be attributed to Anonymous being inspired by the comic named "V for Vendetta", which was written by Alan Moore.
